Luke Sinclair was born in London and completed his studies at the Alexander Gibson Opera School at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland under the tutelage of Scott Johnson. Luke was a member of the Opera Studio at the Opéra National de Lyon in the 2017/18 season. He is currently a Solo Ensemble member at the Salzburg Landestheater.

Recently Luke Sinclair has appeared as Duca Rigoletto, Le Prince Charmant Cendrillon, Jacquino Fidelio, Steuermann Der Fliegende Holländer, Arturo Lucia di Lammermoor, Freddy Eynsford-Hill My Fair Lady and Egon von Wildenhagen Der Vetter aus Dingsda (Theater Ulm), Zamoro in Verdi’s Alzira and High Priest Idomeneo (Buxton International Festival), the title role in the UK premiere of Gounod’s Polyeucte (UC Opera), Kuli Der Kreidekreis (Opéra National de Lyon), Mephistopheles The Fiery Angel, Alfredo La Traviata (Unwrapped), and Gastone La Traviata (DF Shows) all for Scottish Opera, The Nameless Singer in the British Premiere of Hans Gal’s Das Lied der Nacht (Queen’s Hall, Edinburgh), Malcolm Macbeth (Buxton International Festival), Sali (Romeo) in Delius’ A Village Romeo and Juliet (Cadogan Hall), Gérald Lakmé (Swansea City Opera), Rodolfo La Bohème (Dresden, Glasgow and Edinburgh), Chevalier de la Force Dialogues des carmélites (Scottish Ballet), Fenton Sir John in Love, Le Mari Les Mamelles de Tirésias (RCS), Don José Carmen (Fife Opera), Blues Singer Paul Bunyan (British Youth Opera), Lysander A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Co-Opera Co) and Don Ottavio Don Giovanni (Bristol Operatic Society). He has also covered Macduff Macbeth and Tebaldo i Capuleti e i Montecchi (Buxton International Festival) and Dancairo Carmen (Scottish Opera).

He has also been engaged, as Tenor soloist, in a number of high profile Oratorio and Concert performances including a highly acclaimed Winterreise in Hans Zender’s Orchestral arrangement at the Theater Ulm, Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius at Glasgow’s City Halls with the Orchestra of Scottish Opera, Verdi’s Requiem at the Dartington Festival, Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde (Mahler Players – Eden Court, Inverness), as an Apostle in Elgar’s The Apostles (Edinburgh Festival – Usher Hall), Puccini’s Messa di Gloria at Perth Concert Hall, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the Aberdeen Symphony Orchestra, Rossini’s Stabat Mater at Ayr Town Hall, Mendelssohn’s Elijah at the Royal Hall, Harrogate and Handel’s Messiah at Perth Cathedral.

Luke was a major prize-winner at the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg International Singing Competition and sang the tenor lead ‘Julian’ in the World Premiere of Marc Aurel-Floros’ Adriana at the International Opera Festival in Rheinsberg, Germany to excellent International reviews.

In the 2020/2021 season, Luke is extremely excited to join the ensemble at the Salzburg Landestheater where he will make a number of exciting role debuts including the title role in Faust, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Prince Charming in Alma Deutscher’s Cinderella, Captain Stone in Die Blume von Hawaii and Vasco in the Austrian premiere of Stuart MacRae’s acclaimed Anthropocene.
