Born in London, Luke recently completed his studies at the Alexander Gibson Opera School at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland under the tutelage of Scott Johnson. He was generously supported by an RCS foundation scholarship, the Jim Forson singing bursary and the Sir Richard Stapley Trust. He is also the grateful recipient of a Hope Scott Trust Award.
Luke is in much demand, both at home and abroad, in a variety of operatic roles. Recently he has appeared as Gérald Lakmé in a National touring production for Swansea City Opera. Sali (Romeo) in Delius’ A Village Romeo and Juliet (NSO – Cadogan Hall), Rodolfo La Bohème (Dresden and Edinburgh), Chevalier de la Force Dialogues des carmélites (Scottish Ballet), Fenton Sir John in Love, Le Mari Les Mamelles de Tirésias (RCS), Don José Carmen (Fife Opera), Blues Singer Paul Bunyan (British Youth Opera), Lysander A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Co-Opera Co) and Don Ottavio Don Giovanni (Bristol Operatic Society). He has also covered Tebaldo i Capuleti e i Montecchi (Buxton Festival Opera) and Dancairo Carmen (Scottish Opera).
He has also been engaged, as Tenor soloist, in a number of high profile Oratorio and Concert performances including Mahler’s epic song cycle Das Lied von der Erde with the Mahler Players at Eden Court, Inverness, Elgar’s The Apostles at the Edinburgh Festival at the Usher Hall, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria at Perth Concert Hall, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the Aberdeen Symphony Orchestra, Rossini’s Stabat Mater at Ayr Town Hall, Mendelssohn’s Elijah at St. George’s, Bristol, Mozart’s Requiem at St. John’s, Tisbury, Mozart’s C Minor Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral and Handel’s Messiah at Bristol Cathedral.
Luke was a major prize-winner at the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg International Singing Competition and sang the tenor lead ‘Julian’ in the World Premiere of Marc Aurel-Floros’ Adriana at the International Opera Festival in Rheinsberg, Germany in the summer of 2015 to excellent International reviews. He was also highly commended in the final of the Ye Cronies’ Opera Award.
Engagements in 2017 include Malcolm Macbeth at the Buxton International Festival, where he also covers Macduff, Ciullo in the UK Premiere of Hans Gal’s Das Lied der Nacht at the Queen’s Hall Edinburgh, Gastone La Traviata for the Dementia-Friendly performances with Scottish Opera and Rodolfo La Bohème for both the Preview Shows at the Edinburgh Festival and for Opera Bohemia. Further engagements in the 2017/18 season include the Opera Studio at the Opéra National de Lyon, where his roles include Koolie in Zemlinsky’s Der Kreidekreis. On the Oratorio and concert platform he sings Handel’s Messiah (Perth Concert Hall) Mendelssohn’s Elijah (Royal Hall, Harrogate), Puccini’s Messa di Gloria and Rossini’s Stabat Mater (Wakefield Cathedral).
