New Zealand born Soprano, Claire Egan, is based in London. She studied at the Cardiff International Academy of Voice under Dennis O’Neill, and as part of the English National Opera’s Opera Works program. She has been a Solti-Te Kanawa Accademia scholar, trained with Richard Bonynge and Dennis O’Neill in the Italian Opera Mentoring Program in Melbourne, and studied with Mirella Freni in a series of masterclasses at the Centro Universale del Bel Canto, Italy.
Operatic highlights include The Babysitter BETWEEN WORLDS for English National Opera, Konstanze DIE ENTFÜHRUNG AUS DEM SERAIL for Garsington Opera, Violetta LA TRAVIATA, directed by Deborah Warner at the Vienna Festival, Theater an der Wien and for Pavilion Opera; Donna Anna DON GIOVANNI at the Soho Theatre, Königin der Nacht DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE at Riverside Studios, London, Gilda RIGOLETTO in Abbay Luxembourg and Gretel HANSEL UND GRETEL for Celebrate Voice Festival and other roles including Musetta LA BOHEME, Pamina DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE and Gilda RIGOLETTO. She recently covered Cordelia LEAR for Hungarian State Opera in Budapest and recorded the sung voice of Ariel for the Salzburg Festival’s production of DER STURM.
Recent concert and workshop highlights include; the UK tour of Raymond Gubbay’s “Johann Strauss Gala”; The Oresteia workshop with Fiona Shaw and Phyllida Lloyd, Young Vic Theatre, London; Violetta & Mimi, La Traviata Singing Project for ENO Baylis; Puccini & Bel Canto favourites, Malfa Festival, Salina, Sicily and The Pendragon Recordings, an education project for children with Autism at the Barbican in London.
Competitions include; Winner, 28° Premio Lirico Internazionale Piero Boni Mantua, Italy; Winner, Kiri Te Kanawa Foundation Grant, New Zealand; Finalist, McDonald’s Aria, Sydney Opera House Australia; Encouragement Award, Dame Joan Sutherland Competition, Australia; Finalist, Herald Sun Aria, Melbourne, Australia; Semi-finalist, Operatunity Oz – ABC/Australian Opera Australia.
Engagements in 2018 include Violetta LA TRAVIATA for Longborough Festival Opera and cover Violetta for Théâtre des Champs Elysées.
