Biography
Mezzo-soprano

Mezzo-soprano Sylvie Bedouelle grew up in Paris. After graduating with the highest distinction at the Conservatoire National Régional de Saint-Maur, she studied with Janice Chapman on the Guildhall School Opera Course. She was awarded the Patrick Libby Prize for acting, the Guildhall Fellowship for two consecutive years and the Leo Birnbaum Scholarship, won the Ruislip Northwood Competition, and received further scholarships from the Worshipful Company of Mercers, the Worshipful Company of Tallow Chandlers and the Music Students’ Hotel Trust. She is currently part of the International Opera Academy in Ghent and is generously supported by the Kathleen Trust.

Operatic engagements include Annina LA TRAVIATA, Garcias DON QUICHOTTE, and Madelon FORTUNIO for Grange Park Opera; Lisinga LE CINESI by Gluck at the Minard Theatre in Ghent; Dritte Knabe ZAUBERFLÖTE directed by Daniel Mesguich for Opéra de Metz-Métropole; Oreste LA BELLE HÉLÈNE and Opinion Publique ORPHÉE AUX ENFERS for the Festival Eva Ganizate; Sorceress DIDO AND AENEAS for Westminster Opera; La Frugola IL TABARRO at the Arcola Theatre; Angela LA CENERENTOLA for Opera Up-close; Sesto LA CLEMENZA DI TITO for Hampstead Garden Opera; the title-role LA PÉRICHOLE and Reine Clémentine BARBE-BLEUE at the Grand Théâtre d’Asnières (Paris); Bergère, Chatte and Ecureuil L’ENFANT ET LES SORTILÈGES and Filipyevna EUGENE ONEGIN at the Théâtre de Saint-Maur (Paris); and Volusio CAJO FABRIZIO by Hasse for the Handel Festival. While at the Guildhall School, Sylvie sang Mère Marie DIALOGUES DES CARMÉLITES, Elisa LA SPINIALBA by Almeida and Mrs Herring ALBERT HERRING. She was also a member of the Glyndebourne Chorus and the Glyndebourne on Tour Chorus for several seasons.

Sylvie is a dedicated song recitalist. She has performed recitals in various festivals, including London Song Festival, Chipping Campden Festival, Festival de musique de chambre d’Argonne, Festival de Bougue and Les Estivales de Megève. Her concert performances include Respighi’s IL TRAMONTO with the Idomeneo Quartet for the City of London Festival, Berlioz’s LES NUITS D’ÉTÉ with the Hillingdon Philharmonic Orchestra and Wagner’s WESENDONCK LIEDER for the Festival de musique de chambre d’Argonne. She has a keen interest in contemporary music and has created SCRAWLED by Jane Herbert at the Wigmore Hall, and performed TIME’S SEA, BRIGHT STAR and OH! HOW I LOVE by Jean-Baptiste Doulcet for the Eva Ganizate Festival with Nathanaël Gouin and Gauthier Broutin.

Future projects include Hans DER GESTIEFELTER KATER by Cesar Cui at the Ghent National Theatre, and Eurimedes ORPHEUSby Telemann directed by Guy Joosten at the Minard Theatre.
