Biography
Mezzo-soprano

New Zealand mezzo soprano Kristin Darragh studied on the Opera Course at The Royal Academy of Music in London and also holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. She is based in Lüneburg, Germany and studies with New York based voice teacher Patricia McCaffrey.

Kristin Darragh made her debut with The New Zealand Opera as Fyodor in Mussorsky’s BORIS GODUNOV at the age of 23. Now based in Europe and a European passport holder, Kristin returns regularly to her national opera stage. Both an Emerging Artist and a Young Artist with the company, Kristin has performed the roles of Olga EUGENE ONEGIN, Amastre XERXES, Maddalena RIGOLETTO and Suzuki MADAME BUTTERFLY for The NBR New Zealand Opera. Other operatic experience includes Erda DAS RHEINGOLD, La Zia Principessa SUOR ANGELICA and Madame de la Haltier CENDRILLON for LidalNorthOpera, Oslo. Grimgerde DIE WALKÜRE with The NZ Symphony Orchestra, Zita GIANNI SCHICCHI and the title role in Britten’s RAPE OF LUCRETIA for the Royal Academy of Music, Florence Pike ALBERT HERRING and Stewardess FLIGHT for British Youth Opera, The Musico MANON LESCAUT for Opera Holland Park and Baba the Turk THE RAKE’SPROGRESS for Dartington Opera.

From 2012 until 2015 Kristin was a principal artist at Theater Lüneburg, Germany. In her three seasons there she performed the roles of Olga EUGENE ONEGIN, Orlofsky DIE FLEDERMAUS, Suzuki MADAMA BUTTERFLY, Alice LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR, Charlotte WERTHER, Dritte Dame DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE, Carmen in a music theatre piece written for an actress and a singer titled WIR CARMEN, Maddalena RIGOLETTO, Frau M. NEUES VOM TAGE, Der Kater DER GESTIEFELTER KATER and as her musical genre debut, Sally Bowels in CABERET.

Kristin has performed in concert with orchestras including Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra and the Auckland Chamber Orchestra.

In the 2015/16 season performances include a return to New Zealand to sing the role of Third Lady in The New Zealand Opera’s production of DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE.
